I have always been a fan of ballet inspired fashion. Fortunately Black Swan's fame has designers and stores producing a handful of modern, ballet inspired styles for us to play with.
You can create an entire ballet look like Minka Kelly did by using the traditional color combination and silhouette of a wide pink skirt and black tank top, or you could take a single page from the ballerina handbook and incorporate one item into an otherwise non ballet look.
An easy and never ending item is the ballet flat. I have a client right now that did not own a single ballet flat before I came into the picture. We decided we needed a round toe and a more square toe flat. We ended up getting her a patterned Diane Von Furstenberg pair and a gorgeous Jimmy Choo. For those of you wanting to channel your own Black Swan, try these black Jessica Simpson flats that resemble toe shoes.
Another ballet essential is the leotard. I adore wearing leotards because it always give a clean tucked in look for you top. Some of my favorite leotards come from Vince, American Apparel and Spiegel. A warning with Spiegel's bodysuit, the white version is very see-thru. Beyond your nipples, it shows the shoulder pads.
The last portion of ballet attire that I love to work with is a version of the tutu. The best skirts just play with the idea of the tutu without looking costumey. Two wonderful examples of this is Carrie Bradshaw's skirt from the Sex and The City series and a couple of the skirts from Chloe's spring line this year. Adore.
