One thing I’m often teaching my clients is how to roll up their blazer sleeves. And, perhaps most importantly, how to keep those sleeves rolled up. No one wants to deal with sleeves that are constantly falling down, and the oversized blazers that are in style right now really need rolled-up sleeves for a chic (and slimming) look. Even just skimming through my post on the best stretch blazers for women, you’ll notice a lot of the models are pictured with their sleeves rolled up. That’s because if you don’t roll up the sleeves of an oversized blazer, like I am wearing above, it will add weight to your silhouette.

While some blazers, like Veronica Beard’s Battista Blazer, come with scrunched sleeves for a rolled-up look, most blazers require us to do it ourselves. But it’s actually really easy. All you need is a nylon hair tie (more on that below). Check out my YouTube video or read the step-by-step breakdown below for everything you need to know about rolling up your blazer sleeves.

The Best Hair Tie To Keep Your Sleeves Rolled Up

best nylon hair ties: Kitsch

Nylon hair ties work best for rolling up your blazer sleeves since they’re more gentle than your average hair tie. They’ll get the job done without cutting into your skin or cutting off your circulation (we definitely don’t want that!). Kitsch makes my absolute favorite nylon hair ties for (comfortably) keeping your sleeves rolled up. Their “thin” option is so lightweight and stretches super wide to accommodate the width of your arm.

On the flip side, I recommend avoiding Lolalet’s nylon hair ties for this task. They are far too taut and will squeeze the crap out of your arm. I accidentally recommended these hair ties to some of my clients and they (and I!) were horrified by how tight and strong they were. Like a steel trap, I tell you.

Tip: Use a hair tie that is a similar color to your blazer so it can blend in on the off chance it ever shows.

How To Roll Up Blazer Sleeves

Step 1: Place Your Hair Tie On The Sleeve

With your sleeve rolled down, place the hair tie about two inches up the sleeve.

Step 2: Fold Your Sleeve

Fold the sleeve over the hair tie once. It should now be covering the hair tie completely.

Step 3: Pinch & Pull Your Sleeve

Pinch your sleeve on the inner elbow and pull up, then pinch your sleeve on the outer elbow and pull up.

Step 4: Repeat

Repeat on the other side — and you’re done! That’s how to roll up your blazer sleeves and ensure they stay up.

Bonus Tip: Keep Your Sleeves Rolled Up On The Hanger

Even when you take your blazer off the nylon hair tie will stay on. This means you don’t have to worry about redoing the process if you’re out and want to take off your jacket. You can also keep your blazer sleeves rolled when you hang them in your closet. I like to keep nylon hair ties on all of my blazers that look better with their sleeves rolled up so they’re ready for me to throw on and go!
