Best Denim Jackets

Remember the days when I didn’t love jean jackets? Me too. Just to clarify, I didn’t love, and still don’t love stiff boxy denim jackets that don’t move with the body. This was, in fact, the only choice for decades. Now, we have soft, yummy, worn-in denim jackets that are either very flattering or fabulously unflattering (my favorite!). I don’t know that there exists the best denim jacket since often you’ll need different washes for your dark vs. light outfits and different lengths for pants vs. dresses. But below are all of the best denim jackets I’ve put on my clients lately, including my favorite petite and plus-size jean jackets. Plus, I have included some utterly fabulous, fashion-forward jackets you’ve never seen before.

AG Robyn Jacket in Ventura

For years I considered the AG Robyn jacket the best denim jacket of all time. It flatters the torso, stretches beautifully for full physical movement, and is super soft. It also comes in an array of shades and washes to meet your sartorial needs. Nowadays, the cut of this jacket is mainly for being worn with dresses. If you want a more modern fit to pair with pants, you’ll need to order a size up and then many of you will need to hem the sleeves. I also consider this to be the best denim jacket for petites, since it runs small, but then you will definitely need to hem the sleeves.

This denim jacket is great outerwear for dresses, like a midi dress. It fits nicely as is, however, I do recommend sizing up one size if you plan to wear it with long sleeves.

I originally wrote this post on the best denim jackets years ago and update it regularly due to its popularity. I’ve left these photos below for nostalgic purposes. Kut from the Kloth ‘Helena’ Denim Jacket is the best denim jacket for dresses. It comes in various colors, as you can see below, but this shade needed its own shoutout. It is perfection for a lighter palette or more edgy denim look. Pair with white and pastels.

Liverpool High-Low Shirt Jacket In Beckett

 

I am truly charmed by this jacket. The Liverpool High-Low Shirt Jacket is the best denim jacket for leggings. So many people want that everyday jacket for a legging look, and now you have it. An olive green utility jacket also works, but now you have this.

Again, I couldn’t help but feature this amazing jacket in another color. This darker shade doesn’t go with as much as the color above, but it is just too darn cool to skip. Pair with skinny skinny jeans and leggings. It goes with rich, highly saturated colors like deep tan, rich espresso brown, and even a rich black.

Madewell Denim Jacket

This Madewell Denim Jacket is beloved, like most of Madewell’s inventory. This jacket is great for straight or slim pants or short dresses. This one is a little boxy, so it is best for leaner, well-proportioned women.
