Every year, I go to one New York Fashion Week — the one in September that features the garments that will be available the following spring. I find the spring collections are more useful to my clients, as I’m based in San Diego. I also don’t care for the frigid New York weather in February when the winter collections are shown. I go to New York Fashion Week to enjoy the pomp of the events, but also to take note of the clothing you can actually wear in your life. There are so many artistic, glorious, and edgy looks to love, but I know many of us don’t have time for such things, so let’s get to it. Below is the clothing you can actually wear from New York Fashion Week Spring 2020. To see these babies (as well as the more adventurous looks) actually walking down the runway, check out my NYFWSS20 highlight on my Instagram.
Per my clients’ request, here is what I wore to New York fashion week:
Day 1: Co Floral Tiered Dress (featured in a Vanessa’s Style Post here.)
Day 2: Co Amber Pleated Midi Dress (featured in a Vanessa’s Style here.)
Day 3: DVF Long Sleeve Maxi Dress (featured in a Vanessa’s Style here.)
Day 4: Red top and Eileen Fisher Wide Leg Silk Pants (featured in a Vanessa’s Style here.)
Brandon Maxwell
This Brandon Maxwell look is extremely flattering and easy to piece with other items. You can pre-order this look and others from the Spring 2020 collection via Moda Operandi, and find Brandon Maxwell at Nordstrom, Shopbop, and Bergdorf Goodman.
Anna Sui
Anna Sui’s boho prairie dress nips in perfectly at the waist and is great for the weekend. Anna Sui is available at Nordstrom Rack.
The Row
The Row showed this fabulous look that flatters the lower stomach and has pockets! Spot this at a black tie affair or brunch. The Row is available at MatchesFashion, Net-A-Porter, and Neiman Marcus.
3.1 Phillip Lim
Are you noticing a pocket theme? We need them. Thank you to 3.1 Phillip Lim for this gem. I am currently obsessed with bold midi dresses with pockets. 3.1 Phillip Lim is sold at Shopbop, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Zimmermann
I know this Zimmermann look is pretty bold for a lot of you, but it is too fabulous and too flattering not to feature. His entire show was delicious, and I would personally wear most of it. Zimmermann is available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
ZAC Zac Posen
ZAC Zac Posen knows how to make clothes for women. You could wear this to work or on the weekend. ZAC Zac Posen is sold at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.
Self Portrait
This Self Portrait dress will make you feel like a woman. I know you probably want more clothing that can go to work, but don’t you think we should embrace our weekends more? Self Portrait is sold at Nordstrom, Shopbop, Moda Operandi and Neiman Marcus.
Alice + Olivia
Alice + Olivia is generally my favorite designer every season. Sure enough, this look can do both work and weekend, and adheres to my standards of being flattering and comfortable. Alice + Olivia is sold at Nordstrom, Shopbop, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Elie Tahari
This Elie Tahari dress is a fantastic option for a look that can go from work to happy hour. You can also pair the separate items with numerous other garments. Elie Tahari is available at Neiman Marcus and Saks 5th Avenue.
Rag & Bone
The New York Fashion Week styling of this Rag & Bone ensemble may not be the cup of tea for most of you, but all the pieces will go beautifully with everything. The jacket alone will do wonders for your wardrobe. James Perse did a similar jacket a few years ago and I have been looking for a similar one every since — it has finally arrived. Rag & Bone is available at Nordstrom, Shopbop, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Michael Kors
Michael Kors killed it with his preppy retro looks. You can sport this dress to work as well as to a wedding. Michael Kors is available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Oscar de la Renta
I loved all of Oscar de la Renta’s looks this season at New York Fashion Week. I personally don’t have the flat stomach for this one, but I know a lot of you do. Oscar de la Renta is sold at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Theory
You asked about work looks, and Theory delivers, as usual. I’m always putting Theory on my clients. It’s available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Avenue, and Bloomingdale’s.
Co
I just recently started wearing Co, and I have to use a word I hate: obsessed. The lines are gorgeous, the pockets are a theme, and the look is luxe. As you saw, Co was my uniform this past week. It’s sold at Nordstrom and Moda Operandi.
Coach
Coach has been bringing it. I am completely charmed by all the leather they showed. It works with pants and dresses; flats and heels. The versatility is there. Coach is available at Coach, Nordstrom, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Veronica Beard
Veronica Beard is a go-to for my clients and me. Wearable fabulous is what she specializes in. Many clients have been asking about trench coats and this was one of my favorites. Veronica Beard is sold at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Shopbop.
Vince
We all know the glory of Vince. Here is just one of the looks we can wear for work. Vince is available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Shopbop.
Chiara Boni La Petite Robe
This was my favorite look at New York Fashion Week from Chiara Boni La Petite Robe. I think we can safely say, we will skip the boots, but this monochromatic look is perfect for work or weekend and will flatter many body types. Chiara Boni La Petite Robe is sold at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks 5th Avenue.
