Today’s retail selection is a wee bit scarcer than previous years, so this year’s list of stylish ankle boots is very needed. Plus, some clients are still holding on to a few low-cut ankle boots that we need to address…
The specific style of ankle boots that bum me out has a round toe, low heel, and stops low at the ankle. This boot is very comfortable, but it makes your legs look short in dresses and barely works with bootcut jeans. But enough of the no-nos, let’s talk about the best booties for women right now.
Stylish Ankle Boots
The most versatile and flattering women’s booties are fitted to the ankle, stop about an inch and a half above the ankle bone, and are either square-toed or almond-toed, like the Sarah Flint booties I’m wearing above. Although I love a pointed-toe bootie, it’s all about balance — you want to avoid an overly pointed toe or an over-extended square toe. Other stylish women’s booties I am loving are lace-up booties or fitted combat boots.

How To Wear Stylish Ankle Boots
Ankle booties can be paired with dresses, cropped wide-leg pants, and full-length boot-cut jeans. They also work with fall skirts in leather and tweed, as well as leggings, joggers, and cuffed jeans. It all depends on the style of bootie, of course. You want to pair your casual lace-up combat boot with your casual joggers, and your dressy pointed-toe booties with your dressy silk or sequin joggers.
How To Protect Your Stylish Ankle Boots
Due to the delicacies of suede and lighter-colored ankle boots, it is vital to spray your brand-new boots with a suede or leather protectant before you wear them outside. This spray makes a world of difference. I actually spray all my new shoes. It keeps them clean dramatically longer. Make sure you clean and respray them at least once a year. These Sarah Flint booties are the ankle boots I’m wearing in the picture at the top of this post in my New Year’s Eve outfit.
